Miguel Bernabeu, MD joined Novartis group (then Sandoz) in 1987 after working as a physician for two years. From 1992 to 1998 Dr. Bernabeu was Head of Global Immunology during which time he also became President of a biotech company. From 1998 on, he has been assigned senior roles in a diversity of countries (Turkey, Argentina, Italy, and Switzerland). Dr. Bernabeu is currently the Head of Market Access and Government Affairs in Fort Worth, Texas. He has been a member of the board and chairman of the ophthalmology sector at Eucomed (European Trade Association for Medical Devices). He’s also currently a member of the Advamed International Affair Committee and board member of NAEVR/AEVR.

Dr. Bernabeu has had direct accountability for reimbursement strategy and execution of more than 10 new pharmaceutical products and is preparing the new Alcon portfolio for access process. In his opinion, market access has become the key challenge for the pharmaceutical and medical devices companies. He believes in the importance of Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) as it describes the scope of implementing Real World Evidence for medical devices in order to quantify target sub-populations, demonstrating effectiveness in patient and long-term safety.
